Year 6 RSE Virtual Workshop

February 6 @ 10:00 am - 10:30 am

This half term, the Year 6 topic is Fit for Life in which the children learn about healthy lifestyles. As part of this
learning, a lesson will be delivered on puberty, which will be taught separately to boys and girls. All pupils are
required to attend this lesson as the Department for Education made the teaching of Relationships & Sex
Education (RSE) compulsory in all school.

We know this is a sensitive issue, and so in line with our RSE policy, we have arranged for parent virtual
workshops and an onsite workshop to take place, as an opportunity to show and discuss the resources we
intend to use within the lesson. We have already adapted the recommended resources by taking out clips and
images.

You will receive a text message inviting you along, with the relevant information to access the session (if you
chose to attend a virtual session). If you attend the virtual sessions, we do ask that all parents remain muted,
with camera’s off to ensure effective use of time. There will be a chat box where you can ask questions, which
myself and Mr Heighington will address at the end of the meeting in breakout rooms for mums and dads.

Monday 5th February 2024
Afternoon Sessions
Onsite workshop 2:45pm-3:15pm (downstairs hall)
Virtual workshop 4pm-4:30pm (breakout rooms for Mums and Dads separate at the end)

Tuesday 6th February 2024
Morning Session
Virtual workshop 10am-10:30am (breakout rooms for Mums and Dads separate at the end)

At the end of the session, I will also share the resources created for the conception lesson (how fertilisation
takes place). Parents do have the right to withdraw their child from this lesson if they wish to do so, as sex
education is not compulsory in primary schools. The children whose parents have asked for them to be
withdrawn, will be taken out to complete a learning activity in a different room. A letter will be sent to parents
in advance of the conception lesson taking place, asking parents to indicate whether or not they wish their
child to stay in for the short 15-minute conception lesson.
