Breakfast Club
To help parents and carers who need extra time or to get to work in the morning before school begins, the school offers a breakfast club for children which starts from 8.00am. Breakfast club is based in the school’s dining hall. During their time at the breakfast club the children are provided with a healthy breakfast.
The club is run by two members of the school staff and has, at least, one qualified first-aider present at all times.
This term we will be trialing changes to our Breakfast Club, to better support families.
Children will now be able to join the Breakfast Club at anytime between 8am to 8.30am. There will be no need to give prior notice that the children are attending. Although some children may wish to attend every day, others may just attend every now and then, for example on days when parents have an appointment.
Healthy Breakfast
A healthy buffet style breakfast will be available, including toast, low fat spread, cereal, milk, a selection of fruit and water. Staff will have access to information on allergies, but to assist with this, please ensure that children in Reception to Year 3 are wearing their allergy badge.
Activities
The children will have an opportunity to read and to complete other homework. Some digital devices will be available to support this. There will also be a range of fun activities available, such as colouring, drawing, quizzes and board games. We will also try to provide some opportunities for physical activities, such as team games.
Cost
This term we will be offering breakfast club free of charge. In their manifesto, Labour stated that they would be providing free breakfast clubs in primary schools. We are yet to receive details of this funding, but in the meantime, we will cover the cost using money collected for School Fund.
Benefits
As well as providing a healthy and nutritious breakfast, Breakfast Club also offers a space where the children can develop their social skills and access digital devices to support their studies. Families who find it difficult to get their children to school on time, may also wish to make use of the Breakfast Club to support punctuality. Breakfast Club will start on Monday 9th September. Children arriving between 8-8.30am will need to press the intercom by the main gate. Once the gate has been opened, the child will need to make their way to the dining hall. Children in Reception to Year 3 should be accompanied to the dining hall by an adult, or an older sibling.
Please ensure that the children arrive before 8.30am. After 8.30am, the gate will remain closed until 8.50am, when it is will be opened for the start of the school day.
As this is a trial, we expect that there may be some initial teething problems, particularly as initially we do not know how many children will attend. We will collect feedback later in the term to help us evaluate the success of the new arrangements.
